Up In Smoke

I thought I’d throw this penny in the pond early.

Tobacciana! As a born again non smoker, I understand only too well what a controversial topic this is. However, I have a hunch that as we are all casting smoking related items into the bin, these are the things that may in the distant future, be scarce and provide a rare insight into the bad old days.

Collecting lighters seems to have escaped the disgust factor. Maybe it’s because they are still needed for lighting fires etc. or maybe it’s because they are sometimes extremely beautiful.

There was a time when smoking was encouraged and seen to be sophisticated. You’d most definitely need a swanky lighter then.
The same can’t be said for the humble ashtray and yet they too can be almost works of art.

Cigarette cases, cigarette holders and vestas are also still being avidly collected. I myself have a few remnants from my smoking days. Not a collection exactly, just things I couldn’t bear to throw away.

Then there are table cigarette dispensers and humidors and smoking cabinets not to mention all the advertising signs and packaging. I mean, now that branding on cigarette packets is banned, surely the old ones will be sought after?….eventually.
On that note. Where did all the old vending machines go?
