After a few days of feverish research and excitement Gareth went on a long road trip to bid in person at an auction that was heaving with gorgeous things. It was so far away that he had to stay overnight. It wasn’t a complete waste of time, but nor was it as successful as we’d hoped. He did however manage to get the one thing that I rated above all else. A pair of these rare oil lamp bases. A pair so diminutive and unassuming that they were hiding in plain sight.

Obviously it is the way that the antiques business works, but I always feel a bit sad when I see someone’s precious lifetime collection going through an auction. This auction did give me a personal insight into the collector though. He/she was passionate and luckily for us the focus was quality.
I also went to an auction but it was local. I got nothing. Zero. |That's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes. There was only one lot I really wanted but unfortunately, my nemesis was there. I eventually dropped out and let him have it. I must say I was a little bit relieved, as I’d have had to have taken a whole table of utter rubbish to get the one thing my sensitive antenna had picked up on. Ah well….I did have the satisfaction of bidding him up. Without me, he might have got the lot for tuppence ha’penny!

Despite it being a busy week, we still managed to list some new things this week. A beautiful French wrought iron and pate de verre lamp and funky barbers chair being two of them.

I can’t lie, much as I love the company of my husband, I did rather enjoy pretending (to myself) to work for the two days he was away. In reality, I hopped around like a flea, half-heartedly grazing on real tasks (picking up the apples) and indulging myself with other hobbies.
