Phew...What A Week

Updated: Sep 22

It’s definitely been messy, but it hasn’t been boring. In terms of buying, This week I’ve done my usual thing of jumping off the swings and straight onto the roundabout. Literally buying things from the 1700s through every single era up to the 2000s.

In Order; A Georgian Toasting glass, A Victorian Doulton Teapot, A French 1920s Onyx clock, A French 1930s Gazelle Lamp, A 1960s Bellini cat, A 1970s Silver Spirit label, A 1980s Studio Glass Bowl and a 2000s Joanne Caile London Glassblowing Bowl.

I’ve had days where I’ve gone full “Seven Dwarves”……well ok then, I swapped out “Bashful” and “Doc” for “Sweaty” and Sweary” because I’m not sure bashful is in my repertoire and swearing most definitely is, but you get the picture.

I do love it when I buy things that I have to do a major clean up on, or tinker with. It’s very rewarding when you see a thing of beauty emerge from years of grime or coax a clock out of years of silence into ticking merrily away. The latter does have its drawbacks though, as I actually am sat writing this blog in the presence of the clock with the loudest and most annoying tick EVER. Being literally able to hear “Old Father Time” shaving seconds off your life is quite unnerving.

The Most Annoying "Tick" Ever

What I don’t love is mess and my kitchen this week has looked like a scene from “Life of Grime”. It smelled a bit funny too. Fortunately for me, right at the point where it was all getting a bit much, an angel rang and demanded that I go out. I grabbed the bottle of wine I was using as props and walked out of the door without a backward glance. Hurrah for friends (you know who you are) and hurrah for wine!
