Finding Inspiration in Unique Decor
Some people have a knack for designing their living space. They seem to buy random items they fancy and incorporate them into their home with wonderful effect. For the rest of us, a little inspiration can go a long way.
The age of our property is an obvious starting point. However, it doesn't have to dictate what we choose to beautify our home. I've often thought about how well the clean lines of the Art Deco era blend with the minimalist look of 1950s furniture.

If you live in a modern house but love Victoriana, do not despair. The ornate can be showcased beautifully against a minimalist background. Alternatively, if you have the mindset of "more is more," then fill your boots! The Victorians were definitely consumers and had the time to do a lot of dusting.

Embracing Your Personal Style
Our own home is over 500 years old. The temptation to fill it with "old stuff" was hard to resist. However, we have meandered down the well-worn path of buying what we love and finding a home for it. My personal collection of vintage tin plate toys and French Art Deco opalescent glass live happily cheek by jowl with the ancient.
The modern convenience of an electric carving knife often gives way to the 1930s manual one we have with the Bakelite handle.

Whatever your style, just buy things you love.

The Joy of Using Antique Items
Or maybe just buy what you can use. There is something quite wonderful about drinking a cup of tea from a 200-year-old antique cup. The experience adds a layer of history and charm to something as simple as a tea break.
