Champagne Charlie

Some people regard champagne as "the Kings New Clothes", no better or worse than Prosecco or Cava. I take an entirely different view. Champagne is the best!
No one ever cracks open a bottle of champagne for a sad occasion. I'd say those times called more for a "wee dram". The whole excitement of popping the cork, the overflowing bubbles, the toast (the dent in the ceiling) makes me smile just to think of it.
Champagne has been sipped from stiletto heels - think Jayne Mansfield and Mickey Hargetay - from chipped mugs and plastic cups, but you just cant beat a crystal glass.
We now know that to preserve the bubbles, flutes are the best form, but for me, the champagne saucer definitely ramps up the theatre and I just love the surprise of finding the secret extra mouthful at the bottom of the hollow stemmed glasses.
Champagne also gives me the opportunity to show off my art deco wine cooler and opalescent glass bottle coaster too. Although.......the champagne is rarely left long enough for me to get to the cupboard theyre languishing in!
