Lovely old railway lantern.
I can’t certain where it was manufactured or used but my research suggests it’s probably French or Spanish, (any info appreciated!)
One of the last pictures shows the front cover of a magazine called ‘Via Libre’ from September 1966 where a similar lamp can be seen.
Height 54cm overall.
Footprint 22 x 12cm.
Depth 17cm max with door.
Red front panel 24cm diameter.
The main body it coated in a black bitumen type material and the top cap, which is removable, and the hinged front are brass.
I haven’t polished the brass as it’s got a nice patina, buyer may decide otherwise.
A brass pin can be removed from one side then the door swings open
Research suggests that originally there would have been an oil/paraffin burner on the inside, now there is a brass bulb holder, black flex and a 3amp fused plug.
This lamp has a thick red acrylic panel in the front, I don’t know wether it’s a replacement or not, the panel looks like a hot bulb has touched it and melted a small area which I’ve tried to show in the last picture.
