Antique Doulton Oil Lamp Converted To Electric

Standing 59cm tall with a base diameter of 15cm

The socle now sits on a round wooden plinth to accommodate the black flex which is fitted with a three pin plug and an inline switch.

The black ceramic socle is decorated with two gold lines and is topped with a round brass ring which supports the main ceramic base

When the base is removed the makers marks are clearly visible showing an impressed “DOULTON” mark, the date and a small impressed flower cypher.

The whole of the ceramic components of the lamp are decorated with a hand enamelled Persian style floral pattern of leaves and flowers in muted shades of red green brown and ochre. Although of a matching pattern the top ceramic section containing the reservoir is a slightly different shade from the main body, this seems common in the lamps that I have had and is presumably due to the firing process during manufacturing.

The top section has a round brass collar into which is screwed a later brass burner with an integrated bayonet type brass bulb holder and non working wick winders.

A burner supports a clear glass bulge chimney and the brass gallery supports tulip shaped shade probably of a later date.

The (later) shade is a pretty tulip shape with frilled rim and has an acid etched floral pattern that echoes the body of the lamp.
