A lovely pair of Staffordshire type pottery black and white spaniels dating from circa 1900, with painted features and glass? eyes, manufactured by the Bridgeness factory in Barrowstouness (known as Bo'ness) in Scotland.
Although Victorian dogs and animals of this type are generally attributed to being of Staffordshire manufacture they were also produced in large numbers in the potteries of Bo'ness, Scotland. This particular pair are large and quite striking standing an impressive 32cm tall.
Condition
Both dogs are crazed which is usual for these wares.
I am unsure if the eyes are original particularly because one is a different colour.
Two chips to the base as pictured but which are glazed over, so made in the manufacture, NOT later damage.
